Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard to Cisco inventory from the top ten competitors (3)

7. Cisco vs Microsoft

Microsoft and Cisco are in called "competing relationship" gray area. They have competition in the unified communications have cooperation. Microsoft in 2006 with Nortel Networks to establish the Innovative Communications Alliance, Microsoft and Cisco, said the intention to continue cooperation and competition.

However, Nortel Networks bankruptcy and the disintegration of the Innovative Communications Alliance, Microsoft and Cisco data center switches and the main rival Hewlett-Packard established a unified communications partnership. In the spring of 2009 at the Interop conference, HP's keynote speech at Microsoft and HP announced it would invest 180 million U.S. dollars to develop this project. As part of this partnership, the two companies will jointly develop some products. These products are mainly around Microsoft's SharePoint, Exchange, OCS and Hewlett-Packard's ProCurve networking hardware and OCS conferencing capabilities with HP's Halo telepresence and video and audio conferencing technology interoperability.

8. Cisco vs Check Point

According to market research firm IDC, Cisco in size up to 70 billion dollars in the network security market in the lead position. This market, laptop battery, including firewall / VPN, unified threat management, intrusion detection and prevention as well as independent virtual private network. In addition to unified threat management market, Cisco is in every market leader. However, the scale of 26 billion dollars in the largest segment of the market firewall / VPN hardware and software market, CheckPoint ranked second.

CheckPoint is a stateful inspection firewall, a pioneer, and as with the Avaya unified communications and, CheckPoint focus only on security services, with dedicated firewalls, virtual private networks, unified threat management and intrusion prevention products. Cisco also has dedicated to these tasks alone products. However, Cisco also many of these functions into its routers and switches of the operating system software.

9. Cisco vs IBM

Since Cisco to look, aim for that 350 billion U.S. dollars a year the chance of data centers and server market has, IBM has been strengthened with Cisco rival Juniper Networks and Brocade relationship. From the two companies IBM OEM switches and routers and in every opportunity, both estranged relationship with Cisco, despite these moves to be calmer than the HP.

IBM acquired the blade switches BLADE Network Technologies specialist. The company competing with Cisco data center switch market share, and will be together next year with the launch of Juniper Networks "Stratus" structure of the data center architecture, and Cisco unified structure for the data center in direct competition.

Year and a half ago, Cisco launched the so-called unified computing system. The system is designed to consolidate servers, switches, and storage access virtualization technologies such as traditional data centers to re-structure. So far, Cisco has sold to 1,700 customers a unified computing system. Two years ago, Cisco also introduced a special structure for the exchange of data center Ethernet switch Nexus product line. Nexus is the annual sales revenue of 20 billion U.S. dollars. In the past two years, Cisco has also enhanced the existing Catalyst switches, an increase of 10G modules and the application of data center virtualization support, enhanced with storage giant EMC, and VMware virtualization software vendor relations professional to accelerate Cisco products in the data center applications.

10. Cisco vs Brocade

Brocade and Cisco in the Fibre Channel storage area network market were ranked first and second place. Brocade Fibre Channel storage area network has the lion's share, accounting for 64%. Cisco's attempt to shift the industry Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), a dependency on the integration of Ethernet storage area network switch / LAN switching architecture. Cisco's dominance in this area is.

Brocade is not completely resist the shift to Ethernet. Brocade Cisco acquired the field in the Ethernet switch rival Foundry Networks, for his own development and integration of data center FcoE integrated structure. Brocade also recently proposed a named "Brocade One" structure of a unified data center architecture proposed in lieu of Cisco and IBM / Juniper network architecture, a new choice.

However, Brocade also continue to invest, develop and actively marketing their native Fibre Channel technology to their customer base to sell these products and this business as its core business. According to market research firm Dell'Oro said Cisco in 2002 into the Fibre Channel storage area network market, and in 2007 made the first modular storage area network switch market, half of the market share began to decline after the market share, the market in 2009 share fell to 36%. The size of this market was 8.43 billion U.S. dollars. Brocade's market share in 2007 from 50% to the current 64%.

How do satellite providers prevent you from watching their TV if you dont pay?

How do satellite/cable/fiber optic providers keep you from using their services if you dont pay for them? Why are traditional tv channels supported by advertising but not satellite/cable/fiber optic channels?

1. Every satellite receiver or digital cable box has a "name" (a specific number actually). The cable companies can talk directly to that box and tell it what it's allowed to decode and show you. They can also tell it not to show you anything . . .

2. Cable and satellite channels, for the most part, do get some commercial revenue. That goes to the program provider itself (SiFi, USA Network, Comedy Central, etc.). Some premium channels (HBO, PPV) get their money by charging the providers who have to collect from you and pass on the money. What you are paying for mostly is the delivery. Cable systems must run physical cables. Satellite companies must launch satellites. That costs money. Since they do not produce content on their own, they must charge for "delivery". It's like FedEx charging to deliver a package. You must pay for the package's contents and you must pay for delivery.

I hope this helps.
