Perle Systems Launches Multimode to Single mode Fiber Media Converters

NASHVILLE, TN—April 21, 2011— Perle Systems, a global provider of advanced Ethernet over fiber and secure device networking solutions, today expanded its line of Media Converters with the release of over 100 new Multimode to Single mode fiber converters Fiber Media Converters enable the extension of multimode to single mode or multimode to multimode fiber connections up to a distance of 160km.

"Fiber optic infrastructure installations are expanding globally at an unprecedented rate and companies want to protect their investment in existing multimode fiber-based hardware", said Al Davies, Director of Product Management at Perle Systems. "Perle is committed to ensuring that our full-featured Media Converter line meets any fiber extension need of our large customer base around the world."

Perle Fiber to Fiber Media Converters are designed specifically for Ethernet fiber applications. The Fiber Converters manufactured by Perle have Ethernet transceivers that regenerate the signal received before passing it along to the other fiber transceiver port. This ensures a strong signal across each fiber link to ensure link integrity.

The development of Fiber to Fiber Media Converters was an obvious progression for Perle Systems who already offer an extensive line of Ethernet to Fiber Media Converters. With this launch Perle now has over 485 models of Managed and Unmanaged Media Converters to extend copper to fiber, multimode to multimode and multimode to single mode fiber.

Perle's Media Converter line includes an extensive choice of full-featured solutions to transmit 10BaseT, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet over fiber. All Perle Media Converters have an on-board microcontroller which deals with error detection and recovery. And, Perle Media Converters only use high-end components to ensure product reliability. Perle backs this up with a Lifetime Warranty to guarantee user satisfaction.

Fiber channel & FDDI?

“Fiber channel is a new networking development and may compete with FDDI or provide backbones or wide area connectivity for FDDI in the future”.
Discuss validity of the given statement."

FDDI is a longer range network technology (up to 200km). Fibre Channel is primarily used for high-speed connections of storage arrays (ie. SAN), although it can theoretically be used for short distance networking. The two technologies have different uses, so one does not directly "compete" against the other.
