DIGISOL launches Managed Fast Ethernet Layer 2 Switch

DIGISOL has introduced its high-performance Layer 2 Managed Switch DG-FS4526 for workgroup environment. This switch brings high level of availability, enhanced security and advanced QoS to the network edge, while maintaining simplicity of management at an affordable price. It comes with 8.8 Gbps switching capacity, 24 10/100 ports and 2 Combo Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45/SFP ports.

Four Egress Queues per port enable differentiated management of up to four traffic types. Traffic is prioritized according to 802.1p, DSCP, IP precedence and TCP/UDP port number, giving optimal performance to real-time applications such as Voice and Video. Asymmetric bidirectional rate-limiting preserves network bandwidth allowing maximum control of network resources.

IEEE 802.1w Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol provides a loop-free network and redundant links to the core network with rapid convergence, to ensure faster recovery from failed links, enhancing overall network stability and reliability. IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol, IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol, IGMP snooping and Broadcast Storm Control are some of the other features used to enhance bandwidth, load sharing/balancing, fault tolerance and to prevents flooding of IP multicast traffic.

What is the difference between a workgroup switch and internet hub?

I ran out of ethernet ports to plug into my exisiting router. I need to find a way to add 2 or more ports one for my playstation 3 and one for my new laptop. What would be the appropriate solution to this problem. Do i have to buy a workgroup switch or do i need somthing else

buy the switch, switches are smart and only send relavant data to each connected pc, ps3, whatever. Hubs send all data to all clients and therefore have reduced performance and are simply put- stupid.
